The 2012 JOBS Act has removed restrictions on the advertising of private placement securities to accredited investors. Accredited investors are individuals with an investable net worth in excess of $1 million or annual income greater than $200,000 ($300,000 for couples). In September 2013, Title II of the JOBS Act was enacted, which allows startup companies to advertise their capital needs via platforms such as Venovate.
